Disc Springs for Mass Timber Applications

SPIROL partners with companies in the building and structural industry to provide application engineering support and Disc Springs, manufactured to DIN 16983 (formally 2093), for use in Mass Timber applications. Mass Timber, an engineered wood product, is an eco-friendly construction solution that generates significantly lower carbon emissions compared to the energy-intensive processes involved in producing concrete and steel. Disc Springs (also known as Belleville springs) help maintain the stability of Mass Timber structures by compensating for wood expansion and contraction caused by moisture exposure. When added to connectors or fasteners, the Disc Spring Stack absorbs the force from the swelling and shrinking of wood in the CLT panels and Glulam beams, reducing its impact on the integrity of the fasteners and the overall structure.

In addition to supplying single Discs that are assembled into stacks by the construction company, SPIROL also provides Pre-Assembled Disc Spring Stacks for the Mass Timber industry. Pre-Assembled Disc Spring Stacks are used as a single, drop-in component, and thus eliminates the need for construction workers to manually stack the Disc Springs into the correct configuration, often in challenging conditions. This not only speeds up the construction process, but it also error-proofs the stack configuration.

SPIROL Application Engineers will assist you in determining the optimum Disc Spring and Disc Spring Stack configuration to meet your specific Mass Timber application requirements. To engage SPIROL's technical team, simply Request Engineering Support or Contact Us.

Disc Spring Options

Disc Springs

SPIROL offers the full range of DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) Group 1 and 2 Disc Springs in Series A, B, and C. In addition to the DIN specified sizes, SPIROL stocks its own standard sizes. SPIROL’s supplemental standard Disc Springs offer an expansion in the diameter and thickness combinations that are not included in the DIN standard. These Disc Springs are designed around the standardized calculations of DIN EN 16984 (formerly DIN 2092), and meet all material, dimensional tolerance, and quality specifications as laid out in DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093). Standard materials include carbon steel and alloy steel, both finished with a protective coating of zinc phosphate and oil.

Pre-Assembled Disc Spring Stacks

SPIROL offers custom Pre-Assembled Disc Spring Stacks constructed to meet your specific application requirements. Stack options may include standard or custom-made Disc Springs, multiple lubrication options (if needed), customized packaging such as shrink wrap or tubing, and a choice of shipping containers to meet technical and commercial expectations. SPIROL also offers complimentary Application Engineering support to help design the Disc Spring Stack and select the best packaging for your needs.

Pre-Assembled Disc Spring Stacks offer a host of benefits for the Mass Timber industry. Since the Disc Spring Stacks are delivered to the construction site as a pre-assembled unit, the need for on-site assembly and the subsequent quality check of the stack are eliminated. This significantly decreases construction time and ensures proper stack configuration.
