Disability: a. “any degree of physical disability, infirmity, malformation or disfigurement that is caused by bodily injury, birth defect or illness and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, includes diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, a brain injury, any degree of paralysis, amputation, lack of physical co-ordination, blindness or visual impediment, deafness or hearing impediment, muteness or speech impediment, or physical reliance on a guide dog or other animal or on a wheelchair or other remedial appliance or device, b) a condition of mental impairment or a developmental disability,c) learning disability, or a dysfunction in one or more of the processes involved in understanding or using symbols or spoken language, d)a mental disorder, or e) an injury or disability for which benefits were claimed or received under the insurance plan established under the Workplace Safety Insurance Act, 1997”

At SPIROL Industries, we are committed to meeting our obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Policy. We believe in integration, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner. We will do so by removing and preventing barriers to accessibility and by meeting our accessibility requirements under Ontario’s accessibility laws.

We at SPIROL Industries Ltd. are committed to continuing to develop or provide assistance to ensure dignity and respect when dealing with people with disabilities and is working hard to remove and prevent barriers to accessibility, under our commitment to fulfilling our requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Introduction

SPIROL Industries Ltd. is a global manufacturer of engineered components for fastening, joining and assembly. Our mission is to set the industry standard for product quality, service and value by exceeding customer expectations through continual improvement. Our plan shows how SIL will play its role in making Ontario an accessible province for all Ontarians.

Customer Service

We are committed to providing excellent customer service to all clients, including people with disabilities. 

Employee Training

We are committed to training staff and volunteers in Ontario’s accessibility laws and aspects of the Ontario Human Rights Code that relate to persons with disabilities.

We will train our employees and volunteers on accessibility as it relates to their specific roles.

SPIROL Industries Ltd. will provide training for its employees that deal with the public or other third parties on behalf of the organization, and every person who participates in developing policies and practices on providing goods and services. The training will be provided within 30 days of employment. Additional training will be provided when changes are made.

  • Arrange for training for employees, as appropriate, as required by the Ontario Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation.
  • Maintain any required training records for employees
  • Implement appropriate training as part of the new hire orientation for new employees
  • An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the requirements of the customer service standard.

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports for Employees

Upon the request of an employee with a disability, SPIROL Industries Ltd. will consult with the employee to provide or arrange the provision of accessible formats and communications supports for information that is needed to perform their job, and information that is generally available to other employees. 

Recruitment, Assessment or Selection Process

SPIROL Industries Ltd. will take the following steps to notify the public and our employees about the availability of accommodation for applicants with disabilities in our recruitment practices. If accommodation is requested, by an applicant, they will be consulted to arrange necessary provision of suitable accommodation, based on the specific requirement of their need due to disability.

  • Notification in internal and external hiring advertisements or job postings about the availability of accommodation for applicants with disabilities in our recruitment processes.
  • Notification when applicants are selected to participate in an assessment or selection process that accommodations are available upon request in relation to the materials or processes to be used.
  • When advertising job openings, include different ways to apply: online, email, mail, include statement on availability of accommodations and Equal Opportunity Employer
  • Providing AODA training in New Hire Orientation as an LMS course
  • When making offers of employment, to notify the successful applicant of its policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

Workplace Emergency Response Information

SPIROL Industries provides employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when necessary and when SPIROL Industries Ltd. has become aware of the need for such accommodation. 

Where the employee requires assistance, SPIROL Industries Ltd. will, with the consent of the employee, provide the workplace emergency response information to the person designated by SIL to provide assistance to the employee.

SIL will review the individualized workplace emergency response information when the employee moves to a different location in the organization, when the employee’s overall accommodations needs or plans are reviewed.

Documented Individual Accommodation Plans

SIL will maintain a written process for the development of documented individual accommodation plans for employees with disabilities. If requested, information regarding accessible formats and communications supports provided will also be included in individual accommodation plans. In addition the plans will include individualized workplace emergency response information where required and will identify any other accommodation that is to be provided.

Return to Work Process

SIL maintains a documented return to work process for its employees who have been absent from work due to a disability and who require disability related accommodations in order to return to work. The return to work process outlines the steps SIL will take to facilitate the return to work and will include documented individual accommodation plans.

Performance Management, Career Development & Advancement & Redeployment 

SIL will take into account the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities as well as individual accommodation plans when conducting performance management, providing career development and advancement to employees or when redeploying employees.

Information and Communications

SPIROL Industries Ltd. will provide, on request, information in an accessible format or with communication supports to people with disabilities, in a manner that takes into account their disability. When asked, we will provide information about our organization and its services, including public safety information, in accessible formats or with communication supports.

Design of Public Places

SPIROL Industries will continue to provide designated parking spaces for people with disabilities and provide uninterrupted access to the building. SPIROL Industries will continue to provide access to a handicapped equipped washroom.

Notification of Temporary Disruption

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities, we will notify the customer by clearly posting a notice including information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time and a description of alternative services, if available. The notice will be placed in the area to which it applies.

Multi-Year Plan

We are committed to developing and maintaining a multi-year service plan.

Service Animals and Support Persons

We welcome people with disabilities and their support persons and service animals. Service animals are allowed in parts of our premises that are open to the public and other parties.

Accessible Websites and Web Content

We have updated our Parent Website (US Based) to include an Accessibility link which will be active by December 2023 and include our AODA policies and plans.

Communication

The employees of SPIROL Industries Ltd. will communicate with people with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability, respecting their dignity and independence, and taking into account their specific needs.

Upon request, SPIROL Industries Ltd. will provide or arrange accessible formats and communications supports for persons with disabilities in a timely manner.  We will consult with the person making the request in determining suitability of an accessible format. We will also notify the public about the availability of accessible formats and supports.

Feedback Process

SPIROL Industries Ltd. will continue to ensure that its process for receiving and responding to feedback is accessible to persons with disabilities by providing, or arranging for the provision of, accessible formats and communication supports upon request.  Customers who wish to provide feedback on the way SPIROL Industries provides goods and services to people with disabilities can contact Human Resources who will forward a feedback form for completion. There will also be a feedback form located at the Reception Desk. All feedback, including complaints, will be reviewed by the Human Resources Manager. Customers can expect a reply within 10 days.
